Although sustaining a chronic and painful knee injury, and having trouble to stay fit, Edu Marangon was a very technically gifted player. When in good shape, Edu was more than capable of outshining his teammates, controlling the left side of the pitch by delivering silk-smooth and accurate passes, creating quick 1-2 plays with wingers, stepping close to the box to deliver powerful curling shots and being able to strike dead balls with class and technique.
After leaving Portuguesa, his first club, Edu had a brief spell in Europe, playing for Torino and Porto. Next, he returned to Brazil to play for Flamengo, but with little success, he moved to Santos. Then, he spent 1991-92 playing for Palmeiras, leaving a great mark in the club. Then, Edu moved to Japan to play for Yokohama Flügels, where he had the best two years of his career.
For Flügels, Edu played 67 official matches and scored 18 goals, his best career average. He was regularly seen among the team’s starting eleven, and he became the oficial penalty and free kick taker for the club. In the 1993 season, Edu helped the team to win the Emperor’s Cup, scoring twice to defeat Kashima Antlers 6 – 2. In 1994, Edu became famous for scoring two back-to-back long distance free kicks, the first one against Júbilo Iwata (02/04/1994), a fantastic dipping shot from the right side of the pitch, and the second against Shonan Bellmare (09/04/1994), a “trivela” shot from the right, almost 40m away from the goal.

In this case, I have to agree with Interista.

A good example was how Zico "make it rains" with "only one leg" in Japanese League until 1994.

Zico couldnt even jump anymore and even so made all the difference there.

I know Zico is Zico, but he had even retired playing before a knee surgery when he began playing in Japan.

Yeah, it's a good point. Maybe I'm overrating him too much..

General overhaul. Now I realise that it didn't just make sense. Hope this is better than the original set.
