Infos :
MARCOS ALONSO : Top quality, pacey winger who could play on either side. Skilful with the ball at his feet, he also had a fine shot with both feet and was very strong in the air. Marcos Alonso appeared in the Panini album for the 1982 World Cup. He was part of the list of 40 players pre-selected for the tournament. He was finally dismissed in favor of Pedro Uralde, playing for Real Societad, La Liga champion club in 1982, team on whom coach Santamaria had bet to perform.
Daniel SOLSONA : Before the World Cup, the specialist magazine "Don Ballon" conducted a survey of players in the Liga to find out, position by position, the ideal national team. Daniel Solsona, attacking, central or right midfielder with a great touch of the ball and an excellent vision of the game, featured in midfield with Periko Alonso and Jesus Maria Zamora. With only 7 selections by coaches Kubala and Santamaria, Spanish football fans would consider this fact to be something unfair, but unfortunately, this was a common situation for players who preferred the home pitch Mestalla of Valencia at the Bernabéu or Camp Nou. Finally only Miguel Tendillo and Enrique Saura were an exception for Valencia team.
VÍCTOR MUÑOZ : Often selected before the competition, Víctor Muñoz appeared also in the Panini album for the 1982 World Cup. Included in the list of 40 pre-selected players, an injury during the last journey of Liga forced him to withdraw from the tournament.
Genaro CELAYETA : In November 1981, Genaro Celayeta was elected by the specialist magazine "Don Ballon" as the best right back playing in La Liga, coming first for his defensive qualities, mentality and technical ability. Part of the ideal national team of the same magazine, included in the list of 40 pre-selected players, he was finally not choosen, the choice of the coach falling finally on Santiago Urquiaga, depiste his favor for Real Sociedad players.
MIGUELI : Essential member of Barca "Blaugranas", he was called up with the Spain team for the Euro in 1980. With one draw and two defeats, Migueli and his team finished last in their groups. This stoppage marks the end of the international career of the Barcelona defender at only 29 years old. However, he maintained a high level and remained indisputable at FC Barcelona and won another Copa del Rey in 1981. He nevertheless experienced a hitch in 1982 when Udo Lattek was appointed head of Barça. The German coach in fact relegated him to the substitutes bench, against public opinion. Migueli would only play six games that season. He watches from the bench a new victory for the Catalan club in the European Cup Winners' Cup. Lattek nevertheless gave him a chance the following season where he became a starter again with a third King's Cup up for grabs. Tendillo took his place in the 1982 spanish world cup team.
José Manuel SEMPERE : A promising young goalkeeper of 24 years old, starter in Valencia goals, José Manuel Sempere, by general opinion, should have been the third goalkeeper of the Spanish team in world cup 1982, having been on the bench as Arconada's replacement during the matches of preparation. At the last moment, Santamaria choose Miguel Ángel, Real Madrid's 35-year-old veteran goalkeeper, because of his experience. Some rumors at the time claimed that this choice was motivated by the coach's desire to help the Real Madrid goalkeeper who was experiencing money problems.
