INFO: A tireless scorer and a keeper of a reasonable technique, he started the Brazilian team at the 1938 World Cup in France. After being successful in Minas Gerais soccer, he landed mature in the Palestra, already with his 29 years of age, and is considered until today one of the most complete athletes who have already performed in the middle line alviverde. He also played on the right-back, and after retiring, he was a coach at Sportiva Guaratinguetá-SP, Botafogo-SP and São Carlos Clube-SP.
Zezé Procópio was summoned to compete in the 1938 World Cup in France. The first match was against Poland on June 5, where we had a simply spectacular game, where Brazil won by 6 to 5. At the end of the 90 minutes, in a field flooded by heavy rains and under violent weather, both teams arrived to the surprising 4 to 4. Then came the extra 30 minutes, with the field impracticable, a mogul without grass. The Poles scored their fifth goal and the Brazilians made two more, closing the score of 6 to 5 for Brazil. The Brazilian goals were scored by Leônidas da Silva (4), Romeo and Peracio. The second match came, this time the opponent was Czechoslovakia, on 12 June. It was a dramatic and tumultuous game, which ended tied at 1 to 1, even after the overtime. The referee had a lot of work and expelled the Brazilians Zezé Procópio and Machado and the Czech Riha.
Two Czech players suffered fractures in violent sets. As there was to be a winner, a new game was scheduled for June 14 at the same place and Brazil won by 2-1. Then we faced Italy and lost 2-1. With this defeat we were to decide the third place against Sweden and won by 4-2, goals by Leônidas da Silva (2), Romeo and Peracio. The Brazilian team was thus formed; Batatais, Domingos da Guia and Machado; Zezé Procópio, Brandão and Afonsinho; Roberto, Romeu Pellicciari, Leônidas da Silva, Perácio and Patesko. It is worth remembering that the world champion of 1938 was Italy that in the final defeated Hungary by 4 to 2. With the canarinho shirt. Zezé Procópio played 20 matches. He won 10, drew 4 and lost 6.
