Charles Guerreiro was one of Flamengo’s most reliable and hard-working players during the early 1990s. Born in Pará, he began his professional career with Paysandu before moving through Ponte Preta and Guarani. In 1991, he joined Flamengo and quickly established himself as a key member of the squad during one of the club’s most successful periods of that decade.

Originally signed as a right-back, Charles soon proved equally effective as a defensive midfielder and became known for his versatility. Strong, disciplined and tactically intelligent, he was not a flashy player, but his consistency, defensive awareness and tireless work rate made him an invaluable asset. His ability to adapt to different roles helped him earn the trust of coaches and teammates alike.

During his five seasons with Flamengo, Charles played 246 matches, and he was an important contributor to the club’s triumphs in the 1991 Rio de Janeiro State Championship and the 1992 Brazilian Championship. His performances were so impressive that he earned call-ups to the Brazilian National Team between 1992 and 1995,a remarkable achievement for a player whose game was built more on dedication and efficiency than individual flair.

Among Flamengo supporters, Charles became especially respected for his commitment, fighting spirit and professionalism. He was often described as a player who always gave everything on the pitch, regardless of the opponent or circumstances. While he scored very few goals (only two), his defensive contributions and leadership qualities made him a fan favorite throughout his stay at the club.
