Ongagna was a left-winger. He spent his entire career at Étoile du Congo in the 1960s and 1970s. He was named best player of the Congolese league in 1967. The following season, he helped Étoile du Congo win the title. He represented Congo from 1965 to 1972, scoring at least 2 goals and winning the 1972 Africa Cup of Nations, although he came in as subsistute in the second half during the final against Mali.
One of the best Congolese playmakers during the 1960s and 1970s and quite a prolific scorer for Étoile du Congo, Ongagna possessed a superb overall vision that allowed him to change the play whenever he wanted, especially with his accurate long passes. He was phenomenal with his natural left-foot as his shots were often difficult to save for goalkeepers. Furthermore, his shots were particularly powerful and accurate from long range.
