He was a midfielder, mostly playing in central midfield with keen eye for long balls and playmaking. He was good technician, and also good from dead ball situations. He didn't hesitate to shoot from distance, he possessed a powerful shot. Earlier in his career, he was combative, technically gifted DM, but later, he mostly oriented on playmaking, ignoring defensive duties for which he was criticized by his teammates. But his playmaking skills improved, his precise long balls also got speed, so his pinpoint passes became more dangerous. Also, as he gained more experience and adjusted more to Steaua's style of play, his passing was better timed. Before, he was forcing long balls whenever given opportunity. He represented Romanian NT for 10 years, also being the team captain.
