Youness Mokhtar was a Dutch-Moroccan winger known for his speed, sharp technique and vertical movement, who had successful spells at Eredivisie clubs such as PEC Zwolle and FC Twente. A product of the youth ranks of PSV Eindhoven, Mokhtar gained prominence and notoriety when he moved to clubs that offered him more minutes and attacking freedom, especially Zwolle, where he enjoyed one of the best phases of his career.
Playing mainly on the left, although he could also play on the right, Mokhtar stood out for his direct style of play, with good dribbling, acceleration over short distances and a dangerous shot from medium range. At PEC Zwolle, he was an important player in the team's consistent campaigns and helped the club remain in the Eredivisie.
His performances led him to FC Twente, where he was a regular starter and reaffirmed his attacking qualities. At the Enschede club, he put in some good performances with incisive runs and important offensive contributions for goals, although the team went through an unstable period off the field. After that, he had an uneven career marked by unsuccessful international stints in Saudi Arabia, Norway and the United States, as well as a brief return to the Eredivisie.
