Patsy Gallacher for Stevenson? Good enough even to be in the first team
He represented Northern Ireland's and Ireland's predecessor teams 11 times and 1 time, respectively. If anything, he would probably be more suited for Northern Ireland NT (regardless of the fact that he was born in Ireland). But even if we were to consider him for the Republic of Ireland NT, there's no way Gallacher gets in with 1 cap (or 12 with 0 goals, if we take both Irish teams into account). And anyway, I would have Alex Stevenson in Northern Ireland NT rather than Republic of Ireland.
It is a good point to be made, in defence of Stevenson,Everton blocked him playing for us. What I think would make more sense is if we had the Republic Of Ireland 1924- with second nationality for players and The Northern Ireland team from 1950 onwards and have a seperate 1882-1950 team. I will volunteer to make it (but you know me with teams.)
I just think it makes more sense that way. In defense of Stevenson he is a legend. I personally believe Gallacher would make the first team of the proposed United Ireland team. Another reason I asked for the St. Patrick's Saltaire was because of Stevenson, Farquharson, Dunne, Carey, Gallacher and even Boyle, Bill Lacey and Gillespie would all go under the Saltire as that was our official flag of the football team, and as a neutral flag of United Ireland since 1783 (obviously we were United playing football until 1924 on the founding of the F. A. I. and offically in 1950.
