Attack / Defence Awareness Card: Defence-MindedINFO:Nadinho made history for Bahia, but for many people, the greatest goalkeeper in the club's history is Ronaldo Passos.
Formed in the divisions of base of the club, Ronaldo began his career in Bahia at the age of 13. Despite being short in stature, the goalkeeper compensated with incredible impulsion and refined reflexes. After his debut as a professional, at the age of 19, the goalkeeper impressed, being called-up to be part of the Brazilian under-20 team. Following his career in Bahia, he was state champion 3 times in a row, from 1981 to 1983.
His next title with the club would only happen in 1989 when Bahia won the Campeonato Brasileiro for the second time in its history. At the beginning of the championship, Ronaldo was in the starting line-up, but after breaking his little finger in a match against Goiás in the qualifying phase, he lost his position to Sidmar, who ended up leaving the team before the quarter-finals due to disagreements with the coach Evaristo de Macedo. With that, Ronaldo returned to the starting line-up, making unforgettable matches against Sport (in the quarter-finals) and Fluminense (in the semi-final), but the best was yet to come, in the final game against Internacional in Beira-Rio, Ronaldo worked miracles, made one of the best matches of his career; he closed the goal and granted the title for the “Esquadrão”. In that championship, the archer competed with the young goalkeeper Taffarel of Internacional the title of best goalkeeper of the Championship, but unfairly the prize was given to Colorado's goalie.
