INFO:

In my opinion the 2nd best Scottish footballer of the 21st century so far. Barry Ferguson was a very talented midfielder best remembered for his two spells at Rangers who he captained to the UEFA Cup final in 2008 and played over 400 games for. He was an all-round midfielder with good contributions in both attack and defence, but his main value was as a playmaker. He had very good short and long passing ability, he could easily link the attack and defence, often picking the ball up off the centre backs and hitting a sharp pass to the striker's feet. He was very safe in possession, always playing with his head up and always in good space to pick up the ball, and as such was always involved with the play (while playing at Birmingham, he had the most passes in the whole Premier League in 09/10). He was also a great leader who dragged his team forward through his determination and passion, although this sometimes boiled over and caused him to commit stupid fouls and resulted in a poor disciplinary record, both on and off the pitch. He was a good free kick taker, and he caused lots of problems with his late runs into the box, often finding himself completely unmarked; this lead to a fantastic scoring record in the last season of his first spell at Rangers, scoring 16 goals in 36 league games while captaining his club to a domestic treble and winning the league's Player of the Year award. His defensive work rate was notable, often found defending in his own box and throwing himself into full-blooded tackles. Unfortunately, after signing for Blackburn in 2003, he suffered a serious injury which somewhat stopped his growth, never bettering his phenomenal 02/03 season, although he was still a good player for many years after that. He is held in very high regard by Rangers fans for his passion, ability and for leading the club to some of it's greatest achievements.
