Certainly one of the most complete footballers ever. He played as defensive - central midfielder and central defender although he had enough skills to play on every position on the pitch. Player with very imposing physique, good technique and tactical intelligence. Despite his huge size and strength in the field he had a style and a truly enviable elegance, rare for men of his size. He had no weak points. Very strong physically, fast and tireless with excellent reading of the game and positioning both in attack and defense. Gifted technically weith good ball control and dribbling, served as destroyer and playmaker in midfield with excellent passes, especially lofted ones. He had very strong and precise shot, could score from long distances and free kicks, but also with calm finishing in the box. He had good variety of shots, blast it with full power or curl it precisely under the crossbar, he was also skillful in first-time shots. He was good tackler, had great heading skills and impressive jump, good sense of anticipating and certainly he was the most consistent player of the great Dutch trio in Milan.
