INFO:
Wes Brown was a centre back and side back, mostly on the right flank. He played the most of his career for Manchester United, appearing 362 times from 1997 to 2011. He won many trophies with the "Red Devils", the most important of those surely being the UEFA Champions League in 1999-00 and 2007-08. He played also for Sunderland, Blackburn Rovers and Indian team Kerala Blasters before retiring in 2018. He won 23 caps for England.
Brown was a good defender, gifted with a nice physique, timing of reaction and decent speed that he used as advantage to stop his opponents. He lacked a bit of technical abilities but he still used to push forward, especially when playing on the flank, to support the attack.

He was never worth of such stats for DEF/RES, this guy was one of the most average defenders to ever play for United. He only lived by his physical attributes (and even those were nothing extraordinary) and certainly shouldn't get those overrated stats for DEF/RES. There were several games where he left his team defence exposed by not marking his defender or leaving gaps because he was out of position.
Anyway, to sum it up: he certainly shouldn't have such stats only because he was lucky to play for United and not for a small team..

Yeah, I noticed that especially in his early years. In fact I gave him there a lower value in both DEF and RES compared to his second set. I thought those values might be a bit high but maybe not too much so I still went for 81/82 and 84/83, I guess overrating him in the process. What do you suggest? I was thinking 78-79 and 79 in the first set and 80/80 in the second one, so similar to the stats Konami used to give him (until they decided to boost his DEF to 88 for some reasons when he played for Southampton).

You mean Sunderland, not Southampton.

And you should know by now that you don't have to bluntly take the defensive values as basis for anything done by Konami post PES 2014, most of those stats (if not all of them), don't have correlation to the old system.

Yeah, I meant Sunderland, sorry! I know about the change of the system value. In fact if possible I always use PES 5 as basis. By the way I made some considerations. Konami gave him in PES 5 DEF 79 and RES 78 and there he was only one year older than he is in my second set. So I was thinking about 79-80 in both DEF and RES for the second set. While the first one should have a huge decrease since he was way less accurate but he seemed to me to be slightly better at intercepting than defending compared to his late 20s, so DEF 77 and RES 78.

I don’t think he was that bad tbh, certainly a serviceable player for United, and he was really good in the CL for them in 2007/08. I’d go for something like 80 DEF, 81 RES in the second set. I generally give RES>DEF for those less intelligent defenders that have to make last ditch blocks and tackles because of poor positioning. Maybe you could give him white MEN and less TMW just to make him more erratic...

Alright, if you all agree with me about the first set and with Stuart about the second plus those changes in MEN and TMW I'll update them.

Well I may have exaggerated a bit but that doesn't change the fact that his positioning wasn't worth anything near 84. Anyway you already summarized his playing style pretty accurate although I'd keep his RES on 82 (after all his blocks/reactions weren't that bad but as you said, his decisions and his positioning were the problem).
Btw, what about this:
Quote:
He used to go forward especially when playing on the side to participate to the offensive actions.

Was he really that offensive-minded?
Can't help for first set unfortunately, of course I watched him back then against Bayern in 2001 and Leverkusen in 2002 but a) I was still a child back then and b) in a team full of legends (Giggs, Scholes, Keane, etc) he was certainly one of the least memorable players

By saying "offensive minded" I simply mean that he used to go past the midfield sometimes, trying some crosses or dribbling (both not good) or even going near the area. He basically tried to do something in attack but he wasn't effective at all. Therefore I might leave AGG as it is and maybe decrease his ATT a bit.

So why the values for DEF and RES were boosted again to the overrated values you gave him in the first place?
Brown, Silvestre and O'Shea were all mediocre defenders and nowhere as good as those sets make them look like. I find it a bit strange that out of a sudden changes are remade silently and that the previous feedback is basically ignored.

Thing is that every fullback in the last 25-30 years was/is expected to provide support by running around the side. You'll start giving them +70 in AGG, which is not really necessary if their main position is CB and while playing in the heart of the defense, they don't even past the midfield line.

So you're saying he doesn't need 70 in AGG? If that's so, he already has less. Fact it, as I said in the first posts, I saw him several times going past the midfield and even near the opposing area, especially during his early years. He definitely wasn't too stuck in his own box.

if he's not very offensive while playing as CB, then I wouldn't (or if the team doesn't employ a very high defensive line).

He used to push forward sometimes and only when playing on the side. That's why at the end I gave him AGG less than 70 in both sets.

I'm watching United 99 treble season just for the sake of watching them, so far the U-20 Wes Brown has played as RB, and has done the stuff you are mentioning, not gonna lie, I have him at 70-71 in AGG
Thing is, that I don't know if he was originally a RB or a CB.
