Mario Piga was a right winger who played mostly for Avellino: 138 matches and 13 goals from 1977 to 1982. He played for several other clubs including Lucchese, Perugia, Lazio and Palermo. He retired in 1991.
Piga was a small player, fast and agile, gifted with good dribbling and dangerous on the flank. He was able to deliver good crosses, either from the side after freeing himself from his marker or from dead-ball situation. Although he wasn't very prolific and strangely − despite his size and position − most of his goals came from headers because he didn't fear diving to hit the ball.
