For such a puny frame his stamina was phenomenal, and at the close of play he was worrying the opposition with the same degree of doggedness that had marked the opening minute.

Maybe worth a STA increase?

Patsy Gallagher was born in Milford in Donegal so he wasn't Northern Irish. He was from the Republic of Ireland so you might want to update that

He represented the IFA national team that later became Northern Ireland. He even represented Scotland during wartime.
At most I would add "born in Republic of Ireland" between brackets.

He also got a few caps for the Free State when it became FIFA Recognized he definetly found himself as being Irish there was just the Northern Ireland team in this era

Billy Gillespie is also in the free state team despite him being raised in NI he was just born in Donegal which makes him Irish? If anything thr nationalities should be swapped

It's true that Gillespie was born in what's known today as the Republic of Ireland, but he started his professional career in Northern Ireland and was close to be signed by Linfield, another Northern Irish team, before transferring to Leeds United instead. He capped for the Ireland team that eventually became Northern Ireland in 1954.

There's a difference between the country where you're born and the country you officially represent which technically decides your "football nationality", if you get what I mean.
By your reasoning, many Italian players both current and old who played for Italy should be only Argentinian. Many French players should be either African or North American.
And I could go on. That said, I don't mind if you want to consider Gallacher and Gillespie Irish, but considering them Northern Irish is correct too.

Hey Dan, the reason Gallacher is listed as a Northern Irish player is because he had more international caps for the IFA whilst he only had one for the Republic of Ireland. There are cases where dual nationality can be claimed as long as the player in question has performed well for both teams or has a particular interest, such as Luis Monti and Enrique Guaita with Argentina and Italy, where Kubala is also found with the Czechoslovak, Hungarian and Spanish teams, a particular case because he represented three teams, or also due to birth issues depending on the era (I'm talking more about the territory which changed drastically over time).

There was birth issues in the territory. Ireland were not recognised by fifa he couldn't play for us the reason why I think it should be ROI is cuz he was born in the country and only represented IFA because that's what they were. The IFA now and the IFA then are very different
