BalancedINFO:Finnan played on the right side in defence or midfield. His career began in 1993. He played in minor leagues for Welling United and then in First Division for Birmingham City between 1995 and 1997. After a few seasons at Notts County, again in minor leagues, he transferred to Fulham in 1998. He helped the club reaching the Premier League in three seasons and played a total of 209 matches with 7 goals. In 2003 he joined Liverpool where he won the 2004-05 UEFA Champions League among other trophies. He left the "Reds" in 2008: 217 games and 1 goal. He retired in 2010 after one-year spells at Espanyol and Portsmouth. He capped 53 times for Ireland, scoring twice.
A model of consistency, form and professionalism, Finnan was a solid, dependant and committed right-back who quickly became a fan favourite at both Fulham and Liverpool. Especially at Liverpool he played an average amount of 50 goals per season between 2004 and 2007. Gifted with high stamina and good reading of the game, he was a key player down the right flank: he wasn't too good in defence while his accurate pinpoint crosses made him effective during attacking plays as well. He could also deliver dangerous long throw-ins.
