Basically, there are 6 prominent periods in United's history that we can pick players for the AS main team: - The Edwardian era (1900-1911): 3 league titles, 1 FA Cup (4 runner-up medals). - Between the 2 WWs era (1923-1932): 1 league title, 2 FA Cups. - The triple FA Cups of 50s (1950 - 1955): 3 FA Cups. - The European success: Inter-Cities Fairs Cup 1969. - The 70s: 1 FA Cup runner-up, 1 League Cup runner-up. - The Late 90s: 2 PL runner-up medals, 2 FA Cup runner-up medals.
Then these players should be replaced in the main team: - Gary Speed (joining in his 29 of age - his best was at Leeds, got 2 FA Cup runner-up medals)-> Colin Veitch (one of the greatest passer of the United, played everywhere throughout his 15 years with the team) - Waddle (4 years in 2nd Division, left after 1 good season in PL, his best was at Tottenham & Marseille) -> Rutherford (one of the best right wingers in the English football history) - Ivor Allchurch (joining in his 29 of age - his best was at Swansea, 3 years struggling with the risk of relegation, then relegated) -> Jimmy Howie (signed United at his 25 and won everything he could in 7 years as a key player)
Beside these players should be added to reserves: - Jack Carr: 278 apps, 5 goals - Andy Aitken: 349 apps, 41 goals - Terry Hibbitt: 293 apps, 18 goals - Tommy Urwin: 200 apps, 24 goals - Tommy Pearson: 230 apps, 62 goals - Jimmy Boyd: 215 apps, 64 goals - George Wilson: 218 apps, 33 goals - Bill Appleyard: 148 apps, 88 goals - Bryan 'Pop' Robson: 244 apps, 97 goals - Neil Harris: 194 apps, 101 goals - John Tudor: 220 apps, 73 goals
these players should be adjusted for their positions: - Steve Howey: center back - Joe Harvey: midfielder
