INFO:
Wright is a former centre forward. He's a legend of both Crystal Palace and Arsenal. His career began at Crystal Palace in 1985 and scored 118 goals for the team in 277 matches throughout six seasons. He transferred to Arsenal in 1991 and stayed there for seven seasons, scoring 185 goals in 288 games. He retired in 2000 after short spells at West Ham United, Nottingham Forest, Celtic and Burnley. Despite the astonishing number of goals, his performances weren't as good with the national team and he gained only 33 caps for England, scoring 9 goals.
One of the most prolific strikers during the 1990s, Wright's scoring rate per season was always 60% or 70% in his first six seasons at Arsenal. Highly effective either inside or outside the box, he was feared by the defences. He could easily beat the goalkeeper in a 1-on-1 situation or deliver outstanding, powerful, sudden and sometimes curled shots from difficult positions and with both feet. He possessed great speed, which was especially useful when he sprinted with the ball from his own half, and when he accelerated with the ball, he was very hard to stop due also to the excellent ability to dribble the opponents and make flicks and quick turns with the ball as well as his resistance to physical charges despite his short size. A great and incredibly reactive opportunist, he took advantage of every mistake committed by an opponent and he was deadly in front of the goal thanks to a superb heading ability combined with a huge leap. A penalty specialist, he scored for Arsenal almost 30 goals from the penalty spot.
