INFO:Fernando Quirarte was a legendary Mexican centre-back, best remembered for helping C.D. Guadalajara win the 1986–87 league title and for his outstanding performances with the Mexico national team at the 1986 FIFA World Cup. In that tournament, he remarkably scored four goals.
Quirarte was in exceptional form during Mexico '86. A commanding centre-back, he posed a constant threat from set pieces thanks to his outstanding aerial ability and clinical finishing from close range. He showcased these qualities against Iraq and went on to become one of Mexico's top scorers at the tournament, an extraordinary achievement for a defender.
Nicknamed "The Sheriff," Quirarte was far more than a player tasked with stopping opposition attacks. He earned widespread respect for his leadership, defensive strength, and ability to organize the Mexican back line. While defending was his primary responsibility, he also became renowned for his dominance in the air and his eye for goal.
