Ubirajara played for Bangu from 1956 to 1969, making 534 appearances. Without a doubt, he is the greatest goalkeeper in Bangu's history. He also holds the club's all-time appearance record, not only among goalkeepers but among every player who has ever represented Moça Bonita.

A product of Bangu's youth academy, he won several titles during his career. He was part of some of the club's greatest generations, playing alongside Zizinho, Zózimo, Nílton dos Santos, Décio Esteves, Calazans, and Nívio in the 1950s, before continuing into the 1960s with Paulo Borges, Fidélis, Aladim, and many others.

He was regarded as one of the finest goalkeepers of his era thanks to his reliability, courage, and outstanding shot-stopping ability. The greatest achievement of both Ubirajara's career and Bangu's history was winning the 1966 Campeonato Carioca. That same year, he made his final appearance for the Brazilian National Team.

Another landmark achievement was winning the 1960 New York Tournament, which was widely regarded as an unofficial Club World Cup. He also played for Botafogo and Flamengo, winning the Campeonato Carioca with Flamengo in 1972 and 1974.
