José Carlos Pinto Samayoa is a guatemalan player born in June 16, 1993 in Jalapa. He has established himself as one of the premier central defenders and most respected leaders in Guatemalan football. Known for his commanding aerial presence, positional intelligence, and exceptional leadership, his career spans dominant domestic spells, an adventurous stint in South American football, and a vital role as the defensive anchor for the national team.
Beginning his career in Sacachispas in 2009 he was a regular defensive player. In 2011 he joined Malacateco for their first matches in the Liga Nacional, the highest football division of Guatemala. In 2013 he joined Municipal, where he achieved three runner-ups of the league against Comunicaciones in the three finals. In 2015, Pinto transferred to Antigua GFC, a move that would define the first major chapter of his professional career. Over a five-year period, he made more than 200 appearances for Los Panzas Verdes and grew into the team's undisputed captain. Pinto was the defensive bedrock of an Antigua side that shattered the traditional domestic hierarchy, capturing an incredible four Liga Nacional titles (Apertura 2015, Apertura 2016, Apertura 2017, and Clausura 2019). His absolute consistency at the club level led directly to his integration into the Guatemala national team, making his senior debut in 2016 and steadily building his reputation as the future anchor of Los Chapines, unfortunately, the FIFAGATE was opened in 2016 and all the Guatemala's football was sanctioned with no games in international matches for at least one year, and the sanction beginned in May 1 2017, where all 2018 Guatemala's team and national team couldn't play any matches.
Seeking a new challenge after the end of the golden era of Antigua, Pinto signed with Comunicaciones FC in June 2020. He instantly transferred his leadership qualities to the capital city giants. The pinnacle of this first stint came in late 2021, when he was part of the Comunicaciones team leading to a historic 2021 CONCACAF League title, defeating Motagua in the final and securing one of the most prestigious international honors in the club's history. In January 2022, Pinto took a massive leap in his personal career by testing himself abroad, completing an international transfer to Club Tacuary in the Primera División of Paraguay. His debut in February 2022 at the historic Estadio Defensores del Chaco marked a proud moment for Guatemalan football. Playing in a highly physical and competitive South American league provided him with invaluable tactical experience and sharpened his defensive instincts. After his stint in Paraguay, Pinto returned home to Comunicaciones in July 2022, immediately reassuming his role as the defensive general, where he continued to add silverware to his resume, anchoring the defense to lift the 2023 Torneo Apertura championship.
On the international stage, Pinto’s importance to Guatemala skyrocketed during this cycle. Under the guidance of manager Luis Fernando Tena, he earned the captain’s armband for the national team. He led Guatemala from the front during extensive CONCACAF World Cup Qualifying campaigns and stood as a central figure in Guatemala's rosters across consecutive CONCACAF Gold Cup tournaments, cementing his status as a legendary figure for both club and country.
