Gabriel Arias is an Argentine-born, Chilean-naturalized footballer who plays as a goalkeeper. Born in Neuquén, Argentina (09/13/1987) with Chilean ancestry on his mother's side, he initially played in the youth divisions of Independiente before joining Olimpo de Bahía Blanca in 2008, where he began his professional career and helped secure promotion to the First Division in 2010. In 2012, he moved to Defensa y Justicia, making his first-team debut in 2014. He later set a record for the longest time without conceding a goal at the club, lasting 741 minutes. He was loaned to Unión La Calera in Chile before joining Racing Club de Avellaneda in 2018. With Racing, he won the 2018-19 Superliga title, two Trofeos de Campeones in 2019 and 2022, and an International Supercup in 2023 with outstanding performances.

He made his debut for the senior national team on June 4, 2018, at the age of 30 years, in a 1-0 victory over the Serbian national team. After his impressive performances at Racing during the 2018-19 Argentine Superliga, Arias was asked if he would consider playing for the Argentine national team, given that he had only played friendly matches for Chile. He responded that he had already decided to represent the Chilean national team. Reinaldo Rueda nominated him to play in the 2019 Copa América after Claudio Bravo withdrew due to internal issues with the Chilean national team (stemming from their failure to qualify for the 2018 World Cup) and an injury. Chile won their opening match against Japan 4-0, and Arias played well. In the second match against Ecuador, Chile won 2-1, advancing to the next round. In the final group stage match against Uruguay, Chile lost by a narrow margin in the last minutes due to an error by Junior Fernandes, finishing second in the group. In the quarterfinals, Chile faced Colombia in a controversial match that ended 0-0. In the penalty shootout, Chile won 5-4, with Arias not saving any penalties. In the semifinals against Peru, Arias had his worst performance of the tournament, losing 0-3 and allowing Peru to reach the final against Brazil for the first time in 44 years. In that match, Arias was responsible for the second of Peru's three goals due to a mistake in his positioning. Arias was also called up for the 2021 Copa América and played several matches in the qualifiers for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, although Chile did not qualify.
