INFO:
Lucas Biglia is an Argentinian former footballer who played as a defensive midfielder. Born in Mercedes, Buenos Aires (30/01/1986), after a promising stint in the youth categories of his hometown club Estudiantes, where he stood out as a goal scorer despite playing as a central midfielder, his professional career began in the youth teams of Argentinos Juniors during 2004-2005, achieving promotion with high-caliber teammates such as Leonardo Pisculichi, Gustavo Oberman, and Jorge Quinteros. Later, he was transferred from Argentinos to Independiente de Avellaneda, where he played from 2005-2006 (49 matches played). From Independiente, he moved to RSC Anderlecht in Belgium, which bought his pass. In 2007, he was crowned champion of the Belgian football league, scoring the decisive goal in the final match that secured the team's victory. In 2012, his final year at the club, he once again won the league title in Belgium. After five seasons playing in the Belgian League, he terminated his contract with Anderlecht to join Italy, specifically the city of Rome, to become a player for SS Lazio for four seasons. On July 14, 2017, he was signed by A.C. Milan for 17 million euros for three seasons. On September 14, 2020, as a free agent after his contract with A.C. Milan ended, he signed with Fatih Karagümrük S.K. for two years. After his time there, he moved to Istanbul Başakşehir F.K. Upon finishing his tenure in Turkey, on July 1, 2023, he put an end to his professional career.

After several call-ups without playing, he entered a few minutes in a friendly match against Portugal played in Switzerland on February 9, 2011. Then, in March of that year, he participated in two other friendlies against the United States and Costa Rica, where he came in the second half of the first match and was a starter in the second, playing at a high level. In that match, he would be named captain after Javier Mascherano's substitution at halftime. In June 2011, he was called up to the list of 25 players who played in the 2011 Copa America. In that competition, he played in the group stage against Costa Rica for the last 15 minutes, a match that Argentina won 3-0. He also played the quarter-final match against Uruguay coming off the bench in the second half, where Argentina eventually lost 5-4 on penalties, after drawing 1-1 in extra time. He was named by Alejandro Sabella for the 2014 World Cup, where he played in all 7 matches that his team played, starting the tournament as a substitute and then becoming an undisputed starter. After the tournament, Alejandro Sabella left the position of coach, and Gerardo Martino took over. On May 11, 2015, the coach of the Argentine national team, Gerardo Martino, announced the preliminary initial list of 30 players called up for the 2015 Copa America, which included Lucas Biglia. He started the 2018 World Cup as a starter, but his participation was limited to those first 54 minutes, as he was injured and did not return to the tournament in which the Argentine national team was eliminated in the round of 16.
