Bernardo Romeo is an Argentinian footballer who played as a center-forward. Born in Tandil, Buenos Aires (10/09/1977), Romeo started his football career in the lower divisions of Gimnasia y Esgrima de Tandil and then continued his career in Estudiantes de La Plata, where he debuted in 1995, playing 40 games and scoring 7 goals. In 1998, due to a contractual problem with Estudiantes de La Plata, Romeo signed for San Lorenzo where he made his debut, with his new shirt, in the same year in a game against Gimnasia where San Lorenzo fell 3 to 2. In the Ciclón he won the 2001 Torneo Clausura where he also obtained the title of top scorer of the tournament with 15 goals in 17 games. During the second half of 2001, he became the top scorer of the Copa Mercosur (10 goals), helping the Argentine club win the last edition of that tournament and the club's first international title. At the end of 2001, he was sold to Hamburg SV for $5 million. At the German club, he scored 45 goals in 88 games and won (as top scorer) the DFL-Ligapokal, the club's first trophy in 16 years. He was loaned to Mallorca in 2004. In 2005 he left Hamburg SV and was bought by Osasuna where he remained for only one season, achieving an opaque campaign (48 games, 8 goals) although scoring one goal in the Champions League. In 2007 he terminated his contract to return to San Lorenzo, for 600 thousand dollars, a club where he is considered an idol. Due to injury problems, his second spell at San Lorenzo was not as good as his first, scoring 19 goals in 69 games. In 2010, with the return of Ramón Díaz as a manager, Romeo was removed from the team at the express request of the coach. The club's fans tried to get his contract renewed, but the board accepted the coach's request, leaving Romeo a free agent. After a season in Quilmes (where he scored 4 goals), the forward returned to San Lorenzo with Omar Asad as coach. On the third matchday of the 2011 Torneo Apertura, he scored his 98th goal with the Boedo club shirt. In May 2012, he scored again in a match in the round of 16 of the Argentine Cup, against Barracas Central, thus reaching 99 cuervo goals. He went down in the history of San Lorenzo as the ninth all-time scorer and the player with the most goals scored in the Nuevo Gasómetro, San Lorenzo's stadium.

A fairly classic number nine, with little participation in the buildup but with an elite sense of goal. Despite his average height, Romeo was, alongside Martín Palermo, one of the best headers on the American continent, scoring 39 of his 99 goals in San Lorenzo in this way. Owner of world-class positioning, Romeo was very good at hunting down rebounds and finishing with one or two players marking him, -or with the goalkeeper at close distances-.
