Defence-MindedINFO:Pablo Alvarado is an Argentinian center-back who can play as a defensive midfielder and as a right-back. Born in El Calafate, Santa Cruz (27/02/1986),
'Apu' started his career at San Lorenzo in the year 2005. He was a member of the Argentina U-17 team, where he became South American champion and played in the 2003 World Cup in Finland. He played for Belgrano de Córdoba in 2009, playing as a midfielder. After a forgettable 2011-2012 season in which San Lorenzo narrowly escaped relegation, Alvarado took charge of the San Lorenzo defense, forming the defensive duo champion of the 2013 Torneo Inicial with Santiago Gentiletti, being one of the pillars of the team. Unfortunately for him, in March 2014 he was loaned to Racing Club, not being able to compete in the Copa Libertadores of which San Lorenzo emerged as champion. That same year, with Racing he would win the First Division of Argentina, although with a much smaller participation.
Alvarado played much of his career prior to the 2013 championship as a defensive midfielder, and while he never excelled in that position, he developed some very useful skills for the center-back position such as good ball control, precise passing, and a lot of patience when holding the ball. He differed from his defensive partner because Alvarado used to press the opposing forwards much higher up the pitch, while Gentiletti used to wait for them closer to the area. A fairly technical central defender, Alvarado almost always tried to play passes from the back, and often tried to dribble past opposing forwards when he had the ball in possession. Newly arrived at Racing Club in 2014, Alvarado tore knee ligaments, relegating him from the team. Since that injury, Alvarado has not shown a level like the one he showed in San Lorenzo.
