INFO:
Santiago Silva is a former Uruguayan footballer who played as a center-forward. Born in Montevideo (09/12/1980), 'Tanque' started his professional career at Central Español in his native country's Second Division in 1998; and between 1999 and 2005 he played for River Plate de Montevideo, where he scored 15 goals. During his time at Defensor Sporting, he scored 8 goals and failed to score at Club Nacional. In 2002 he would play in Brazil, wearing the Corinthians shirt. In 2003 he left for Germany to play for Energie Cottbus, where he scored 16 goals in 32 games. The following year he signed for Beira Mar in Portugal, where he scored 14 goals in 30 games. He then went to Newell's Old Boys where he played the 2005 Apertura season, playing 12 games as a starter, scoring 4 goals. He left said club as a free player to Vélez Sarsfield, where he was the club's top scorer in the 2008 Clausura with 6 goals. After a weak Apertura 2008, he joined Banfield on a one-year loan. He had a great performance during the 2009 Torneo Apertura, scoring 14 goals in the campaign that gave the team its first local title. With his performance in the club from the south of Greater Buenos Aires, he acquired a lot of relevance in the local market. After returning to Vélez, during the 2010 Torneo Apertura, he once again established himself as the championship's top scorer with 11 goals and won runner-up with his team. On June 2, 2011, in the semifinal of the 2011 Copa Libertadores, against Peñarol, he failed a penalty in the 76th minute, with which they would have possibly qualified for the final phase. Silva claimed responsibility for that missed penalty by scoring the first goal against C.A. Huracán in the 2011 Clausura, with which he won his second personal championship in Argentina and the first with Vélez Sarsfield. To this day he is very loved and remembered by the club's supporters. In that same year, his transfer to the Fiorentina club was confirmed who paid $2,500,000 for his transfer. On September 11, he made his debut in the Fiorentina shirt against Bologna. He came on in the 80th minute in his team's 2-0 victory, although without converting. On December 4, he scored his first and only goal for the Italian club from the penalty spot in his team's 3-0 victory against Roma. His scoring drought in Italy made Silva reconsider returning to South America, a fact that would materialize that same season, when Silva returned to Argentina. In 2012, after a problem with FIFA, Silva signed with Boca Juniors, where in two seasons he scored 19 goals in 59 games. After comings and goings, he terminated the contract with Boca Juniors and signed for the Lanús club, a classic rival of Banfield, his former team. In his first game in Lanús, he scored two goals for the 3-0 victory against Belgrano. He scored again against the University of Chile for the 2013 Copa Sudamericana, scoring the first goal of the game. For the same international tournament, he converted again against River Plate and Club Libertad in the semifinal match. Finally, on December 11, 2013, he became champion of the 2013 Copa Sudamericana with the Lanús team, being a key piece of the team led by the Barros Schelotto twins. Later he would play for several teams, culminating a long and extensive career, among them: Arsenal de Sarandí, a second return to C.A. Banfield, Universidad Católica in Chile, Talleres de Córdoba, Gimnasia y Esgrima, Argentinos Juniors, and Aldosivi.

Regarding his style of play, 'Tanque' Silva is a reference forward who stands out for his physique and power. These skills, complemented by his height of 1.83, lead him to dominate the aerial game like few others in Argentina. Furthermore, he is a great finisher, daring in striking with both legs and has managed to score goals from any distance. He is also a born scorer, he knows how to position himself excellently in the area, and he has great ability to collect rebounds. With 133 goals, he is the Uruguayan footballer with the most goals in the history of the Argentine First Division, surpassing Enzo Francescoli who has 115.
