Ramón "Wanchope" Ábila is an Argentinian center-forward. Born in the city of Córdoba (14/10/1989), he started his professional career in 2008 at Instituto de Córdoba, the club he was a fan of when little. He managed to debut in the first team, but his performances were not as expected, so he ended up on loan at Sarmiento (J) and Deportivo Morón and then returned to Instituto with more experience in the division. In 2014 he moved to C.A. Huracán, at the request of coach Frank Darío Kudelka, where he obtained his most outstanding performances, managing to be promoted to the Primera División with that team. He also became champion of the 2013-14 Argentine Cup, against Rosario Central. This allowed them to qualify for the Copa Libertadores, which the club had not played since 1974. Later they won the 2014 Argentine Super Cup, against River Plate. He performed positively in the 2015 and 2016 Copa Libertadores. He reached the final of the 2015 Copa Sudamericana, in which he was defeated by Independiente Santa Fe. He was one of the top scorers in the competition and part of the ideal team of the tournament. During this stage, he scored 53 goals in 103 games, with an average of more than 0.5 goals per game. His good performances put him in the eyes of other teams, with Cruzeiro, from Brazil, taking over 50% of his transfer, in June 2016. His signing led to a conflict between Huracán and the Minas Gerais club since the latter never finished paying what was agreed. Although he had very good performances, over time he lost his starting position and then was not taken into account by coach Mano Menezes. He scored 25 goals in 60 games and became the champion of the 2017 Copa do Brasil. In 2017, Boca Juniors intervened, taking over the debt that the Parque Patricios club had with the player and allowing him to play during the first half of the year in C.A. Huracán, to later buy him. His first official goal was scored against San Martín (SJ) on February 25, 2018, in a 4-2 victory. After this, he alternated games as a starter and as a substitute, both in the local tournament and in the Copa Libertadores and the Copa Argentina, he scored several goals for the xeneize institution. During the 2018 Copa Libertadores, he managed to establish himself as a starter, over the injured Darío Benedetto. He scored goals against Alianza Lima, in the group stage, and then in the round of 16, against Libertad of Paraguay. He had to be temporarily relegated from the first team for carrying a Conmebol sanction from his first stage in Huracán for the red card in the final of the 2015 Copa Sudamericana, which was believed to have been fulfilled a long time ago. On October 31, he scored the first goal against Palmeiras in the second leg of the Copa Libertadores semi-finals, which his team tied 2-2, moving on to the final of the tournament with an overall result of 4-2. On November 11, he scored the first goal in the final against River Plate, capturing a rebound from a shot he made himself. Immediately afterward, River Plate would tie the game by taking a shot from the middle, which ended in a 2-2 tie. In the second leg played at the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium, he would come on in the second half to replace Darío Benedetto, despite not being in good physical condition.

Wanchope Ábila took his nickname from Paulo Wanchope, a former Premier League forward and historic scorer for Costa Rica. He was awarded it due to his great physical resemblance during his time at Instituto. A heavy forward, he always played very close to the off-side line. For many consecutive seasons, he was the player with the most offsides against in the Argentine League. Although he was not very mobile, he was agile with the ball, having a great response and also being able to score goals that were quite acrobatic for a player his size.
