INFO:
Edgardo Di Meola was an Argentinian striker or advanced midfielder. Born in Santa Fe, Argentina (23/09/1950), he started his career at Colón de Santa Fe in 1969. From a young age he was the star of the Santa Fe club; in the year of his debut, people used to go en masse to the field to watch his games in the Santa Fe League. Playing for the youth National Team, he was the top scorer at the 1971 Pan American Games in Cali, where Argentina emerged champion. River incorporated him at the beginning of 1973. He benched a good part of his first months in Núñez, but the departure of Urriolabeitia and the arrival of Delém opened new possibilities for him to play. In the final part of 1973 he saw the best of his experience with the millionaires. Sometimes as a midfielder, sometimes as a striker, Di Meola contributed his share to lead that team to the playoffs of the 1973 Torneo Nacional. After an anemic 1974 at River, he moved to Gimnasia de La Plata in 1975, where he recovered the level he was known for in the beginning, and just two years later, in 1977, he returned to Colón de Santa Fe, now already established as an advanced midfielder. He would stay in Colón for 5 more seasons, -counting half a season on loan in Tigre-, until 1981, the year in which Colón would be relegated to the second division for the first time in its history and Di Meola would be suspended for 25 games for attacking a referee on the day of relegation. After leaving Colón he would play for Estudiantes de Río Cuarto for two years, and finally, in 1984 he ended his footballer career for The Strongest, in Bolivia. In 1985 he would emigrate to Europe to become a futsal player.

Nicknamed "The Goat", he was actually the black sheep of a tatengue family that suddenly saw his youngest member become an idol for their lifelong rivals. Anecdotal is the time that after a derby in which Di Meola scored a goal to give Colón the victory, his own mother, a Unión fan, would kicked him out of her house. Di Meola was for many years the greatest idol of the Santa Fe club, with 70 goals in 242 games, and he even had the luxury of playing for the national team, both in youth and senior categories.
A spicy dribbler with great speed, his game was considered quite ambiguous. In a time of fixed positions in football, Di Meola stood out for his volubility; He was considered both a number 10 with goalscoring instinct, and a number 9 with a lot of participation in the buildup. He was very small, even smaller than Maradona; He was a skilled and unbalancing player, but he was never known as a volume scorer. He had good control in small spaces, and exceptional positioning that compensated for his short stature, although he also knew how to jump, scoring quite a couple goals from headers.

Today, Di Meola is the third top scorer in Colón's history, and the second top scorer in the First Division, only behind Esteban Fuertes, who surpassed him in 2009. Edgardo Di Meola is, in addition to being one of the institution's greatest idols, one of the best players who have ever worn the red and black shirt.
