Nadinho is one of the greatest idols in the Bahia's history, having defended the goal for 9 years, from 1958 to 1967.

He earned the nickname "The Macho" for his attitude and professionalism. Punctual to the extreme, he always arrived with 10 minutes of anticipation to his commitments. He played with love for the fans who, according to him, "would awake even the dead".

Lessa, his predecessor, was spectacular in the art of flashy saves. Nadinho with his 1.86m and 82kg, was the counterpoint of simplicity, which even, as he said, "hated getting dirty". In a recent interview, Nadinho said: "Modesty aside, I was an almost perfect goalkeeper. In my time, if I concede a headed goal I would be hella ashamed. In the box, it was mine".

Nadinho was a extremely serious player, he didn't like celebrations, so much so that he didn't take part in the Brasileirão title party when the team arrived in Salvador, instead of following his teammates, he took a cab and went home.

In the Taça Brasil of 1959, he conceded only 18 goals in 15 games played. An average of 1.2 goals per game, an excellent number for the time, since the average of that competition was 2.86. In the 2019 Brasileirão's, for example, it was 2.31.
