INFO
Froylán “El Cachorro” Ledezma was the most exciting young player that Costa Rica produced in the 90s, even many players, coaches and fans from the time consider him the "most talented Costa Rican player they ever saw" (Sources
[1],
[2]). In his early days at Alajuelense he stood out for his explosiveness: very quick over the first meters, sharp changes of direction and a constant urge to attack depth. He liked to play on the shoulder of the last defender, making diagonal runs into space and facing defenders 1-on-1. Technically he was more than just a runner, his first touch and close control were good enough to beat his man and create shots inside the box.
The 1996–97 period captures him as a raw but very dangerous striker: very young, not the most consistent or polished in decision making (altough he scored 21 goals in 26 matches that season), but already capable of deciding matches with pure instinct, technique and athleticism. His style was constantly compared with Ronaldo Nazario's. That early impact and his obvious potential eventually earned him a move to Ajax in the summer of 1997, which to this day remains the most expensive sale of a Costa Rican player to a foreign club, at $5 million at the time (as point of comparison, PSV payed $5.47 millions for Ronaldo two years before). And he even got a trial at FC Barcelona's first team in 1998 at the request of Louis van Gaal (
[3]), in which he scored a goal and provided an assist, but ultimately was not signed. Unfortunately, his lack of discipline and carefree life prevented him from fully living up to that initial hype and potential.
This set aims to show Ledezma as a very aggressive, vertical CF/SS for that specific season: high Attack, Aggression, speed and Reaction to reflect how often he attacked the box and loose balls, with solid but not elite passing or overall teamwork. In-game he should feel like a classic “live wire” forward, always running in behind, dangerous in transitions and quick combinations, with enough technique and shot quality to punish defences when he’s in form, but not someone you use to orchestrate play outside the final third.
