Attack-MindedINFO:Esteban Fuertes is a former center forward. Born in Coronel Dorrego, Buenos Aires, he started his career in 1992, playing for C.A. Independiente, but he was quickly transferred to lower division team El Porvenir. After very successful spells at teams like Los Andes, Platense, and Racing Club (scoring 49 goals in 129 games for those teams), he arrived at Colón de Santa Fe in the year 1997. His first game for Colón was against Deportivo Español, on September 14th, 1997, though his first goal would come three days later, in a 2-1 victory against Huracán. In 1998, Fuertes was instrumental in helping Colón reach the quarterfinals in the 1998 Copa Libertadores, scoring three goals in the tournament. At the end of the 1999 Clausura, Fuertes said goodbye to Colón to make his first foray into foreign football, to play for Derby County. After his short spell in English football, Fuertes once again put on the Colón shirt in the Clausura 2000, a tournament from which he would emerge as the top goalscorer with 17 goals, an unprecedented mark for the Santa Fe club. On March 12th, 2000, he would score a goal two minutes into the first half against Colón's classic rival, Unión, in a historic 4-0 win, the biggest win in the Clásico Santafesino in AFA tournaments. Four days later, he would score a hat trick in a 6-6 tie against Gimnasia La Plata. In 2001, he would migrate again to European football, this time to RC Lens in France, and later to Tenerife, in Spain. Fuertes would return to the club in 2003, staying for four years before another brief spell, this time in Chile, for Universidad Católica, where he scored 21 goals in 35 games. His sports career at Universidad Católica suffered a severe setback on December 2nd, 2007. In a playoff game of the Clausura, against Universidad de Concepción, he suffered a serious ACL rupture that would take him six months to recover. Despite the injury suffered in Chile, the Santa Fe club repatriated him again. After recovering, he scored 11 goals in the 2008 Apertura, and on May 11th, 2009, he earned a call to join the Local Argentine National Team led by Diego Maradona.
"Bichi" played only one game for the Argentine National Team, on May 20th, against Panama, in what would be a 3-1 win, though he did not score that game.
A strong and fast striker, with a great long-range drive, and amazing reflexes even when old age, Esteban "Bichi" Fuertes, is Colón de Santa Fe's all-time top-goalscorer, and also their most capped player ever, with 144 goals in 302 games for the red and black club, and with 165 goals scored for all clubs he's played for, he is also the 23rd top-goalscorer in the Argentinian Primera División. Despite not winning any title in the Santa Fe institution, Esteban Fuertes is undoubtedly, Colón de Santa Fe's biggest idol and one of their best players ever.
