INFO:
Moharrami is a former left back. He spent the best time of his career at Persepolis, where he made 174 appearances from 1988 to 1997, scoring 41 goals. He previously played for Rah Ahan, Shahin Tehran and Niroye Zamini. He retired in 1998 after one season in Qatar at Al-Arabi. He capped for Iran 37 times, scoring 5 goals.
Considered one of the best players in Iran history and possibly the greatest left back the country has ever produced, he's an icon for Iranian football fans. Unfortunately, his career was affected by his bad attitude that made him protagonist of controversial actions in many matches. In 1992, he was banned for a year for attacking the referee during an Asian Cup match against Japan. The following year, he was banned for three years as he was considered in the spotlight of a brawl during the infamous Persepolis vs Esteghlal derby. Nonetheless, Moharrami was an amazing player. His dynamic and hardworking style of play was highly recognizable due to his constant runs up and down the flank with long strides. He was mostly offensive as he scored plenty of goals for a defender and the scoring rate would've been much higher if it wasn't for the bans. He possessed great tactical awareness, passing and crossing abilities, good technical skills and he could deliver shots with tremendous power on either foot. His decisive and spectacular pass that led Iran to win the 1990 Asian Games is especially remembered. His left foot was regarded as the best in Iran and possibly in Asia, although he was right-footed. In fact, he was deployed as left back since the beginning of his career because everyone thought that the left was his natural foot.
