In this composition, in their qualifying and friendly games where Best played, George would drop back even to CMF, DMF (obviously lacking fitness and drop in speed), however he was the main playmaker of the team and most actions went though him. I would just correct the formation to reflect his position deeper. Hamilton and Mcilroy would be free roaming midfielders (storming through the middle) and G.Armstrong would often be found on the left flank.

I believe that Best would have the same position if N.Ireland potentially qualified for the 1978 WC...
