This squad is very unbalanced, it has 6 players with SS as the primary position and only three proper midfielders. Those 6 players all definitely deserve their place, so personally I would take out Artime and replace him with another CM or DM. Nestor Rossi or Mascherano probably.

I also think Américo Gallego and Sergio Batista at least deserve a place in the reserves, both were World Cup winners and very good players.

I don't think Cambiasso should be here tbh, he always underperformed with them (a la Higuain or Tevez).

I'm totally positive that either Gallego or Batista should replace Cambiasso.

Completely agree, the same could be said about Verón too. Gallego and Batista both performed very well for successful teams while Verón was a liability at two World Cups and Cambiasso only ever played at one and was underwhelming for most of his NT career

Why Batistuta and no Messi?

Juan Evaristo has to be added here. Maybe in the place of Carlos Sosa. He won two Copas América (1927 and 1929) and played one World Cup final in 1930 as a right half-back. He is considered by the Kicker Magazine of 1941 as the best side half-back of the history (until that year, obviusly) alongside José Andrade: https://www.bigsoccer.com/threads/all-t ... t-36271575. I don't see him in the forum by the way. If someone share his stats, I will be very grateful.

I think Ricardo Bochini should be added at least in reserves, was one of the greats.

None of us questions Bochini's class and career it but he did almost nothing for the NT. That's why he's not here, other great playmakers like Carlos Babington and Norberto Alonso missed out for the same reason.

I just question Burruchaga's presence here because his level is not compatible with the rest of the team.

Actualy, I think his skills are pretty far from the others.

Too bad that Burruchaga was excellent in two WCs and secured Argentina's WC win in 1986 final, something that no one else - except for Kempes and Maradona - has done for Argentina. If this isn't enough for him beeing here, then I don't know what else he should have done - maybe scoring another winner in 1990 final?!
There are other players in that team who showed far worse "level" when Argentina needed them (I could name a certain guy who let both his team and his country down in two Copa finals and their last WC final because di Maria wasn't available to save his ass), wonder why you don't question their place here.

You are not comparing Burruchaga with Messi, right?

If this is your criteria, why Goycochea is not among the 23? Because he didnt win at the end?

All stars teams aren't only about skills but also achievements especially when it comes to national teams. Messi is here for his skills and individual
achievements, Burruchaga for the achievements with Argentina. And by the way, I must say that Burruchaga was also a great player.

If we look at performances in important games and not against Nigeria or Bosnia, then the "level" that Burru played on was better than the one of Messi who who choked twice against Chile, against the Dutch, twice against our NT and last year against Brazil it was di Maria who took responsiblity again. You brought in that "level" nonsense, I just pointed out the fact that Leo has struggled with keeping his "level" in NT for his entire career.
Of course Burruchaga isn't close to Messi or Maradona, everybody knows that. But his archievements, his performances in 1986/1990 and his versatibity to cover multiple positions were enough reasons for the four of us to include him here and we certainly won't remove him because of some nonsense argument. And even more important: You act like we have Burru as starting AMF ahead of Diego while in reality he's just one of the guys who complete the 23 man squad and he well deserves his place there.

Well, his achievement, not achievements in the plural. He only won the WC86. Yes, with a winning goal but Hurst, Gotze and others did the same and are not in the AS teams.

I believe giving too much value to Argentina's WC titles is unfair with the 40's generation. The best ever in Argentina's history.

I would pick Nestor Rossi and Labruna instead of Burru, simply because they were IMO much better than Burru and their achivements can be compared since there werent WC in their times.

But I guess the main point here is that I think Burru was a normal player (really not especial for me) and you guys think he was a great player.

Well, thats it. I just wanted to let my point of view well explained here.

There's no way we can assure/assume/believe if they were "better" just by overly romantic texts that exists from them (no one better than the Argies when it comes to romantize their own players  ), as they are not even the same kind of player.
