*Mohammed KACI-SAÏD, considered as one of the best Algerian central midfielders, devoted and combative, participated in numerous qualification matches and was in the Espana 82 Panini Album. Curiously, he was dismissed in favor of players with a more offensive profile like Karim MAROC or Djamel TLEMÇANI. He had to wait for the 1986 World Cup to show his qualities in a match against Brazil.

*Bouzid MAHIOUZ, who played almost every qualification match and appeared also on the Panini album, was unfairly dismissed when he could bring his defensive quality as a stopper or anchor man.The bet of the Algerian coaches to give defensive tasks to attacking midfielders had worked against West Germany, but, not changing these players who were tired, proved to be a bad choice against the Austrian and Chilean attackers.

*Abdel DJAADAOUI, experimented sweeper, leader and captain of the french club "Fc Sochaux", was also in the Panini Album and in the last group just before competition. As Bouzid MAHIOUZ, he could be an useful alternative for the defence.
