Roberto Chale, exseleccionado, contó la razón por la que Orlando de la Torre agredió al entrenador Waldir Pereyra 'Didí' en el Mundial de México 70, ya que algunos señalan que 'Chito' no jugó ante Brasil pues el entrenador decidió no incluirlo para facilitar la tarea de Brasil, que eliminó a Perú a cuartos de final al vencerlo por 4-2.

"'Didí' siempre nos decía que no quería que Perú enfrente a Brasil y prefería enfrentar en la siguiente ronda europeo porque eran troncos. Antes de enfrentar a Alemania nos dijo que había que ganarles para terminar en nuestro grupo primero y enfrentar a Inglaterra. Él confiaba que podíamos ganarle a los alemanes. *Pero ese partido lo perdimos 3-1 con tres goles de Gerd Müller",*manifestó Chale a radio Unión.

El 'Niño terrible' señaló que al final del partido con Alemania se vivió un clima de tensión en el vestuario. "'Didí' nos gritó y nos dijo que la prensa lo iba acusar de haber perdido el partido adrede para enfrentar a Brasil. Nos llamó maricones. Y lo de cobarde no lo dijo a Orlando (De la Torres), sino a todos por la forma cómo jugamos ante Alemania. 'Chito' se levantó y quiso pegarle, tuvimos que intervenir. Cuando llegamos al hotel, escuchamos un ruido. ¿Qué había pasado? Orlando había golpeado a 'Didí'. Por esa razón 'Chito' no jugó ante Brasil", subrayó.

Chale también reveló que en los días previos al partido con Brasil, 'Didí' vivió tensionado por amenazas de sus compatriotas.

"Previo al partido con Brasil 'Didí' vivía asediado por la prensa de su país y andaba preocupado porque le habían amenazado que si Perú eliminaba a Brasil le iban a incendiar su casa e iban a matar a su familia", finalizó.
