I don't get why Martino still isn't part of the best team here. We're speaking about one of the greatest players to ever emerge from Argentina, surely better than Romagnoli and Gorasito together (probably even the best player to ever play for San Lorenzo), so I don't understand why he isn't chosen here.. |

(Tbh Langara would IMO deserve the spot even more than Pontoni) Pics for first post: Bauza: Veira: Team Picture: Btw Rosso, if possible, use an image hosting site to prevent that pictures from extern sites disappear. Thanks |

IMO it's crazy to have Bernardo Romeo and Alberto Acosta in the first team over Hector Scotta and Diego Garcia (who was a forward by the way). |

I have an update for this team but first I'd like to share some thoughts and have some feedback. I see that this team has only one left-back and too many right-backs. Sergio Villar and Jorge Olguín are more than enough (can someone confirm if Ramón Heredia frequently played as side-back in San Lorenzo's first team?). I'd replace Oscar Calics with Jonathan Bottinelli who played a good number of games as left-back. I understand that he may not seem the most appealing choice but he has over 260 appearances in nearly a decade and one championship win. StuartBannigan wrote: IMO it's crazy to have Bernardo Romeo and Alberto Acosta in the first team over Hector Scotta and Diego Garcia (who was a forward by the way). I totally agree with this. gurkenjoe93 wrote: Tbh Langara would IMO deserve the spot even more than Pontoni I also prefer Lángara over Pontoni. Even Scotta would be a better choice, in my opinion, if we also consider number of goals and titles rather than just skills. Or should the best XI be mainly focused on that? This is something I keep wondering. |

Ramón Heredia didn't play side-back for San Lorenzo, at least not regularly, and Bottinelli is not All-Star material. Alberto Acosta and Héctor Scotta should both be in the first team. And (this is my opinion) from the 2014 Libertadores team, Torrico and Ortigoza have good first team shouts, but that's on you. |

That's why I said that Bottinelli may seem a debatable choice. Aldo Paredes is another option but he might be even less worthy than Bottinelli. But there's literally no other left-back aside from Antonio Rosl who is worthy of a spot in the first team unless I'm missing someone. I'm not against Acosta in the first team but I noticed some doubts regarding his name in previous posts. Of course Fischer, Lángara, Sanfilippo and Scotta are untouchable, at least in my opinion. If we have to make a choice based on appearances, goals and titles then René Pontoni should be out. But is there anyone who would keep him off this team? Torrico and Ortigoza in the first team would be alright. Who should they replace, though? Irusta was a mainstay for over a decade and was part of the successful San Lorenzo in the 1970s. And Buttice is highly regarded even though he didn't spend too many years at the club. About the midfielders, Gorosito and Veira seem the only possible options as they have good statistics but in terms of titles they didn't accomplish much. |
