Olympiacos was identified from the beginning with the Adrianopoulos brothers. The Adrianopoulos brothers raised the reputation of the club and added glory to it. Never before had five brothers played side by side in the same team; moreover, they composed the team’s forward line. Certainly, we should not forget other excellent players like Kostas Klidouchakis, the goalkeeper of the team, Nikos Panopoulos, Charalambos Pezonis, Panos Koronaios and Kostas Terezakis. The 1930s would be very successful for the Piraeus club. The club won a hatful of titles and dominated the Greek championship. The real strength of the club lay in its fans, who constantly demonstrated their support even at friendly matches. Against Panathinaikos, Apollona or AEK, the fans followed the team, manifesting their loyalty to the club. The Olympiacos fans invented various ways to celebrate the club’s victory and to mock the opponents of their beloved team. Victories against Panathinaikos were specially celebrated.

By 1960, Olympiacos had won 15 championships in 23 seasons, as well as 9 Greek Cups, making for 6 doubles. From 1947 to 1959, Olympiacos won 9 out of the 12 championships (1947,1948,1951,1954, 1955,1956,1957,1958,1959), 8 Cups out of 13 (1947,1951,1952,1953,1954,1957,1958,1959) and celebrated 6 doubles (1947, 1951, 1954, and 3 in a row 1956-1959); a record performance achieved by no other club so far. Other distinctions during this period were the winning of the Easter Cup (1945, 1953, 1957, 1959), the Christmas Cup (1953, 1956, 1958, 1959), and the Solidarity Cup (1955). It is worth noting that, in 1958-59, Olympiacos was chosen by lot to face Besiktas, but for political reasons, the team was not allowed to travel to Turkey. In the same year, Olympiacos’ mixed team played against AEK, Panathinaikos and America Rio. In addition, Olympiacos participated in the Cup Winners Cup, the Balkan Cup and European Champions Cup. The team also played many friendly games against international teams such as Barcelona, Partizan Belgrade, Grêmio Porto Alegrense, Mixed Roma-Lazio, Steaua, Spartak Moscow, Galatasaray, Levski and others.

In 1960-61, it is worth noting Olympiacos’ victory 2-1 over Pele’s team, Santos Sao Paolo. Then followed the years of the great Márton Bukovi, the top-rank Hungarian coach of the years 1965-67. In 1966-67, Olympiacos brought the Cup trophy into the Piraeus club’s cabinet, after beating Panathinaikos 1-0 in the final. Another chapter began for Olympiacos, when Nikos Goulandris became president and brought star names to the team. Under Goulandris’ presidency, Olympiacos won the title 3 times in a row from 1973-1975, combining it with the Cup in 1973 and 1975. The regime of the Colonels had devastating consequences for Olympiacos. Bukovi was removed and the great team was dissolved. In the 1972-73 season, Olympiacos won the league and the Cup, its 7th double, with 94 points and only one defeat in the entire championship, while the team performed rather well in the UEFA Cup competition.

In a record performance in the 1973-74 season, a highlight season of the 1970s, Olympiacos won the league and the Cup from AEK and Panathinaikos, respectively, with 102 goals. On an international level, Olympiacos performed well, facing opponents such as Celtic and Anderlecht with 2 victories, 1 draw and 1 defeat. During that period, some great names passed from Olympiacos, such as Nikos Goulandris (President), Triantafyllos, Vieras, Delikaris, Synetopoulos, Losantas, Kelesidis and many others. The team went through a relatively dry period in the second half of the 1970s; but in the early 1980s Olympiacos emerged again as the dominant power in Greek football. The championship drought came to an end in 1996-97, when Olympiacos won the first of seven consecutive league titles up to 2002-03, with the best season being 1998-99, when the team celebrated the double and their qualification for the quarterfinals of the UEFA Champions League – before losing to Juventus FC -, their best-ever European performance. Since 1997, Olympiacos had played its home games at the Athens Olympic Stadium, but a few years later the. Karaiskakis stadium was demolished, and in 2004 the new, ultramodern football stadium opened its doors to the team. In 2005-2009, Olympiacos won 5 consecutive championships, 4 Cups (2005, 2006, 2008, 2009) and 4 doubles, while the team performed well in UEFA competitions.

Suggestions about the essential retouch of this topic:
Initially, the situation at the goalkeepers is pretty clear. On top come Theodoridis and Kelesidis, both crucial members of two legendary eras. Difficult to call though who's gonna start. Grammatikopoulos joins the other three forementioned reserves.
About the defence, the two right-back spots should be locked by Rosidis and Gaitatzis. The latter is recordman for all-time caps and had excellent qualities for a side-back. Mavrogenidis will have to yield. There are already three potential left-backs, two of whom (Mouratis, Karataidis) could operate centrally. Team needs two rigid stoppers. Anatolakis doesn't deserve to be there, he was rather a hustler than a capable player. After Kelesidis and Gaitatzis, Siokos' total absence is another mystery. Arguably one of the best defenders ever and a no-brainer for the first team. Alongside must be one of Stefanakos (great talent) or Zanteroglou (the rock of Bukovi's defence). Strange as well to see both missing. Kirastas was a reliable right back & sweeper, but first team might be a stretch for many reasons.
At the reserves I count 6 potential side-backs (2 left and 4 right). At the left Vamvakoulas should be accompanied by Aggelis, who had a bright stint & was better/offered more than Venetidis. At the right we have the first-team drops Kirastas and Mavrogenidis plus Xanthopoulos and Torosidis, who prevail over the others. Chatzidis and Pachatouridis played during dark years and their powerful playing style is already covered by Mavrogenidis. Kofidis is an excess from the beginning. Pantos was a soldier, but can't be compared to Torosidis. Amanatidis was first of all a good defender and deserves the mention more than Pantos, but I'm not sure if he'll be concluded. At the centre of the defence Glezos, Michos and Mellberg surely maintain their position. Dabizas was a really good player, but earned a Premier League transfer instead of staying and building a legacy. I would replace him with Novoselac, who played the same time and is considered the greatest foreign libero of the Greek football! Of course the one between Stefanakos and Zanteroglou who didn't make first team is concluded. The remaining spots are 4, shall the limit be 15. Kourantis was the greatest pre-war defender of the club. Soulis Kinley was a valuable unit of the legendary 50s team, doing the dirty work at the back. Stavros Papadopoulos was feisty and consistent. Then of course Anatolakis or Avraam Papadopoulos (or someone else?) could fill the last spot. I consider Persidis more of a midfielder.
Moving on to the midfield, I believe Polichroniou, Delikaris, Viera, Djordjevic and Bebis are first-team secured. Considering the right flank needs to be strong, the same might goes for Losada and Giannakopoulos. Two first-team midfield candidates missing are Kotridis and Kousoulakis. Kotridis is one of the most successful players and important member of the 50s. He shares similar profile with Tsalouchidis, who was a symbol of the dark years, thus it might be a bit difficult to enter first-team. Kousoulakis was an exceptional midfielder who could make the difference with his consistency. Furthermore even Sinetopoulos could claim a spot.
Some other names that deserve to be a reserve at least are: Minardos (truly leading figure of the 50s), Stoltidis, Darivas, Karapialis, Mitropoulos, Detari and Rivaldo, talking about the centre & Vasiliou (mostly a playmaker at the right, formed a great trio with Sideris and Botinos), Galletti, Botinos, Drosos (great left winger of the 50s), Simeonidis (pre-war leading figure), talking about the flanks.
Really difficult though to cut the other players. Niniadis and Ibagaza for example. Or Lemonis and Tsiantakis. Also two players that had significant contribution and deserve at least a honourable mention are Ioannou and Karavitis. Castillo could stand lucky to be concluded as a forward. Albertsen gets knocked out by Kousoulakis. Karembeu and Persidis could be similar players and there might be room for only one of the them or not at all. Davourlis was a fantastic player, but didn't stay many years and there are already other great players in front of him. From the modern era, David Fuster and Fortounis are the most representative players of the 10s in my opinion.
The center forwards selection has been insightful I can tell, for both starters and reserves. But here's possibly the biggest problem so far: where should be Gioutsos placed. I can't imagine him out of the first team, since he was a fantastic scorer and playmaker at the same time. His ranking might be higher than Delikaris actually. But it's challenging to leave any of these names out of the first team. Maybe Alexandris is inferior to Kritikopoulos, so he can concede his place to Gioutsos. The other option is to replace Tsalouchidis, but then the team might look too aggressive. Others retain their place with some little modification: Darivas moves to MF & a Castillo-Rivaldo swap. Also Protasov could be replaced by El-Arabi.
I could take over the revamp of the topic, but I would be more grateful if somebody else wants to cooperate in due course.
