If you looked at the Wikipedia page of Salernitana 1947-1948 you could find enough info and links. I must admit that the line-up was quite weird and unique.

Technically, the starting XI was most frequently lined-up approximately like this:

Practically though Piccinini didn't act in the attack despite wearing the jersey n°9 but acted in the middle of the field as incontrista and was the one who connected defensive and forward lines. This way, Buzzegoli was free from marking tasks because the team was covered enough in the back and he acted as sweeper. Benedetti, who played in the center of the midfield line or as right back, possibly replaced Buzzegoli when a maneuver requested him to act as sweeper. I don't even know if such thing is possible to do in-game. Vaschetto and Tori were midfielders but Viani used them beside the two wingers. Lastly, I believe that the wingers and most likely Merlin, who was the team top scorer in this season (how is he not even in the line up?) filled the centre forward gap during the match.

Buzzegoli as sweeper should be n°5 whilst Benedetti as right back has to be n°2.

I thought, given this formation that Buzzegoli had the number 2 and Benedetti the 5. Correct

It's true but as I said, that was only the hypothetical line-up because back then the players had to be registered with numbers from 1 to 11. Even newspapers used to write a similar formation because they automatically respected the numbers in the field, so Piccinini looked like a centre forward.
In reality, the team played with the second line-up I mentioned in my first post. It makes more sense to have the sweeper as n°5 because the two centre backs were always n° 2 and 3. I believe that in a formation with two defenders and no sweeper, Buzzegoli may have played as right back with the n°2 or between the two wing-halves wearing the n°5. Instead Benedetti was moved to the right defender position.
