Mate, I'm pretty sure that every English team was playing WM since the late 30's. |

If that's the case, then Hughes was more of a centre back than a centre half. However, I believe Liverpool still used a three-men midfield line since I read about Hughes having to play as centre-half while Paisley had to move to left-half and Bill Jones ─ who was the most versatile player in the team ─ played often as inside to replace the injured Willie Fagan. |
