Castaldo is a centre forward. His career began in 2000. He played for Puteolana and Ancona before joining Juve Stabia in 2003, scoring 38 goals in 117 matches in four seasons. He joined Benevento in 2007, making 88 appearances in three years, scoring 22 times. After two seasons at Nocerina, where he scored 28 goals in 82 games, he transferred to Avellino. He had his best time with the Irpini, playing 206 matches from 2012 to 2018, scoring 70 goals. After another prolific experience at Casertana with 74 matches played and 31 goals scored, he signed for Paganese in 2021.
One of the most prolific strikers in Serie B during the 2010s and Avellino's top scorer, Castaldo is mainly an opportunist forward, very capable inside the box thanks to his excellent finishing and heading ability. He's quite athletic, possesses good strength, fine speed, technique and can score in acrobatic ways or volleys. Despite acting as centre forward, he's not static inside in the opposing area.
