INFO:
Friggieri was a full-back. His career began in 1902 at Floriana. He transferred to Valletta United two years later. He came back to Floriana in 1908 and, as team captain, won three national titles of the newly created Maltese League. He played in Italy for Messina and Napoli between 1913 and 1916, where he was nicknamed "Little Maltese Devil", before returning to Malta. He won more titles with St. George's and Sliema Wanderers. He was supposed to come back to Floriana for the 1925-26 season but he unexpectedly died at the age of 39. He gained 5 caps for Malta FA XI.
Friggieri is regarded as Malta's greatest full-back. He was so prominent in the history of Maltese football that still today many talk about his career. He was a small man, even described as around 5ft tall. However, he was strong and a tough tackler, renowned also for his cannon ball shots and ability from the penalty spot. He was nicknamed iz-Zibga due to his quickness. Moreover, he could also play the ball well to escape from troubles − such thing was rare in those days. During the end of the first decade of 1900, Floriana played some prestigious charity and challenge cups against Service teams and many times Friggieri had to mark and stop attackers twice his size. The English opponents laughed at him and used to say « sweep him off the ground » but the defender promptly tackled them with pleasure, making them bite the dust and replying to their taunt by saying « keep him on the island ». His defensive abilities were so essential that during the 1909-10 season, that ended with Floriana winning the league, the team didn't conceide a goal at all primarily thanks to Friggieri. His personality was so great that any club he played for was automatically considered as the main favourite to win the championship. Even bookmakers always waited to see what team Friggieri would play in before announcing their odds!
