Sternberg began his career in the Hungarian championship before leaving for Italy where he first played at the U.S. Novese between 1925 and 1926, before leaving for one season to the Andrea Doria. He then returned to the country to evolve in the Újpest FC from 1927 to 1936 (except between 1928 and 1932 when he left the United States play in the Hakoah). In 1936, he moved to end his career in France for one season at Red Star FC, the Paris region. A very well trained, strong, powerfull, very quick guard scored perfectly on both feet, firmly mounted and ended above the average. Very well applied in inner assembly. Calmly, carefully, and always fought fair. The VAC team began to kick the ball, and then certified for Esze jewelry. In 1925 he contracted with a professional player in Italy. First, the U.S. Noves, Andrea Doria and the team included a one-season total. Meanwhile, in Hungary started in the professional league in 1927 and returned home. Újpestnél spent a season and was third in the team. In 1928, the United States contracted to the New York Hakoah, where each team played Jozsef Eisenhoffer, Lajos Fischer, and Dezso Grosz. In 1929, the Hakoah won the U.S. Open Cup against the St. Louis Madison Kennels. Over the next three seasons, the ensemble featured Brokklyn Hakoah. In 1932, Sternberg ceased to be returned to the American League and Újpesthez. Between 1932 and 1936 the New Pest of two championship titles and two silver medals. In 1936, France confirmed, the Red Star team in Paris. It also played a season and retired from active football. He was a member of the 1934 Italy World Cup participating team. In the 1937-38 season as head coach of the Ujpest, then returned to the United States.
