INFO:Nieuwenhuys was a right winger. He began his career in his native country South Africa before transferring to Liverpool in 1933. He remained with the club until his retirement in 1947, playing 257 official matches, and scoring 79 goals. His peak ended in 1939 given that he made no appearances in the 1939-40 season, and he didn't play much after wartime.
Compared to none other than Stanley Matthews, Nieuwenhuys was considered by some on the same level as the English legend. The South African was though described as more direct and effective than Matthews, both a scorer and provider of goals. Confident on the ball, Nieuwenhuys played in a cool and calculating manner, and proved to possess the temperament and abilities to be instrumental in big matches. His style of play was absolutely neat, made of smooth movements, masterful touches, well thought crosses. He was never an individualist as he looked for the simple moves, and amazing short passes to the inside after turning over a cross. While he wasn't showy, he was gifted with a long stride and an outstanding turn of speed. He was tricky and clever given that most of the times the opponents waited for him to make his usual cut inside and deliver one of his unstoppable lightning shots, but instead, he often made fast touchline runs before sending an accurate cross from the corner flag. Other than having a powerful kick, he could score with softer shots with either foot that were so accurate to be out of reach of the goalkeeper. Moreover, he was effective in the air thanks to his good height and remarkable elevation that enabled him to hit accurate downward headers. In addition of being a brilliant right winger, he seemingly would adapt himself to any role he was deployed in out of necessity. He filled nearly all outfield positions at least once except left winger ─ some sources claimed that he could play on both flanks.
