INFO:
Pietro Grosso was a centre back or defensive midfielder. He played for several important clubs in Serie A throughout his career, which began in 1941 and ended in 1957, when he tragically died in a car accident. He played 71 matches for Vicenza between 1946 and 1948, 99 for Triestina from 1948 to 1951, 32 for Milan in 1951-52, 55 for Roma between 1952 and 1954, 80 for Torino between 1954 and 1957 and capped 3 times for Italy. He played also for Treviso and Brescia. When he was playing in Vicenza, he was always the only good defensive player in those matches where the rest of the defence was in a bad day. Because of that, Juventus was about to buy him but his father refused the transfer.
Grosso was a strong, calm and very thoughtful player, very good at interdicting and gifted with great positional sense. He was slow and not very good at setting up the play. However he had good technique and was able to deliver accurate long passes from the back − preferred to short ones −, which were often followed by the forward catching the ball and scoring.
