INFO

Henri Baillot is one of the emblematic figures of FC Metz. Powerful and fast right winger and centre forward. Gifted with a good striking of the ball, quick, vigorous, redoubtable shooter. Very athletic player with very strong shot, brave and cunning. Originally from Moselle, he quickly joined the great Lorraine club in the region after the Second World War. Thanks to his superb performances, he joined the French team for two years, with a very good record of four goals in eight selections. He played the two memorable matches against Yugoslavia in qualifying for the 1950 World Cup. In the first leg, he became "the French devil" and equalized with a header from a center by Roger Vandooren, under the amazed eyes of Belgrade supporters. On the return, it is still him who opens the score. The native of Magny then leaves Metz relegated to D2 for Bordeaux, exchanged for the aging Luxembourger Camille Libar. "Laï" goes on for two full seasons in the Girondins jersey with a lost French Cup final against OGC Nice 5 goals to 3. Injuries then take over, he who had already been a victim arm during the conflict. A stint in Alsace at RC Strasbourg before putting away the crampons for good on a ruptured cruciate ligaments at Stade Rennais, which then played in D2. He died on November 9, 2000 at the age of 75.
