Fritz Laband was mainly a right back, but also played on the left side as well, had good strength and braveness in marking, good tackler, also possessed solid skills and passing, used to make some runs forward and make good crosses for his wingers. Fritz Laband came from Upper Silesia. From 1936 to 1937 he played in railroad SV Hindenburg, then from 1938 to 1943 for 09 and Hindenburg in 1943 for SC Prussia Zaborze. In 1945 he came home to displaced people in the Soviet zone of occupation. His football career continued when he sat in Wismar ZSG Anchor, 1949 Mecklenburg-champion, played in the DDR-Oberliga 1949/50 and was used five times in the national selection Mecklenburg. In a meeting between the teams of the GDR and Czechoslovakia in 1950 scouts were aware of the Hamburger SV Laband and convinced him to move to Hamburg. For HSV, he completed 143 games from 1950 to 1956, after he spent a season at Werder Bremen. He later played one year for green and white of Hamburg in 2007. After his playing career he coached Buxtehuder SV, and SV Hamburg USC Paloma Lurup. In the German national team defender Laband came in four matches. His first game he played in the 5-3 win over Switzerland on 25 April 1954 in Basel. The highlight of his career was participating in the 1954 World Cup in Switzerland, where he was with the German national champion. He played there in the two matches of the preliminary round against Turkey (4:1 and 7:2) and the quarter-final 2-0 against Yugoslavia. In later years he became a restaurateur in serious financial difficulties. Until shortly before his death in 1982 he worked in his profession as an electrician and most recently as the driver of the chief executives of the company in Hamburg-Kobolt Rothenburgsort. The early 1980s, when Fritz Laband, who had long smoked diagnosed throat cancer. He finally succumbed to cancer 56-year hospital in Hamburg St. Georg.
