INFO:

Alfred Kelbassa is former German stiker, a phenomenal athlete. The wonder of nature: Kelbassa was German champion in pentathlon, he run 100 meters in 10,60 seconds, his record in Long Jump was 6,60 meters and his record in Javelin was over 60 meters. Besides he was robust with solid technique and very strong shot which often broke the goal net led to surprising and spectacular goals. As a centre forward, Kelbassa’s reputation was that of a forceful and combative player with a very straightforward way of finishing. In addition to that, he was also known to be a good technical player and most of all a very fast one who would also be found moving to the wing if the occasion arose. A gym teacher with a diploma by profession, Kelbassa ran 100 meters in less than 11 seconds and had won the pentathlon multiple times during his youth. Feared was his powerful shot which was dubbed “Kelbassa slam” by the media. In the final years of his career he played as center He was excellent scorer as well, Freddy scored 132 goals in 212 games for Borussia , despite arriving at the club at the age of already 29. His football career began with black and white Bülse before he moved to SC Gelsenkirchen-Buer. During the war he played as a guest player in Holstein Kiel and Fortuna lucky city, only to end up on the STV Horst-Emscher and Eintracht Trier at Borussia Dortmund. Here was the striker with the German champions Borussia 1956 and 1957. At that time he was twice top scorer in the football league west. From 1956 to 1958 he played six times for the German national team, scoring two goals. Kelbassa participated with the DFB team in the Football World Cup 1958 in Sweden and came here with the team in fourth place. In the team's formation, he wore the number 15. Kelbassa ended after the 1961/62 season his career and was therefore no longer in the league squad in 1962/63. After the injury of striker Jürgen Schütz-budgetary funds, he was reactivated for the final round of games and in the group used four times. So he is German champion in 1963, but not in the squad or league Bundesliga squad. In later life Kelbassa was PE teacher and clerk in the sports office in Dortmund. He died after several strokes on 11/08/1988. His son married the daughter of his strike partner Alfred Niepieklo from their connection, a common descendants of the two attackers had emerged.
