INFO

Heinz Kubsch was complete keeper with good positioning and reflexes, agile, on the line was excellent and fast, good in jumping but lacked consistency and was mentally weak. Besides he had big problems with injuries, considering the fact he was keeper. Had his first team debut aged 17 in 1947 and quickly became a starter in the following months due to his adroit reflexes. A reserved and downhome carpenter by profession who was together with Helmut Kapitulski one of the heroes of the FK Pirmasens side that won three successive championships in the German South-Western league between 1958 and 1960. Legend has it that once after having celebrated his birthday the next morning he ran into Germany manager Sepp Herberger, still smelling of alcohol, which apparently was considerably detrimental to his international ambitions. By winning the title in 1950 in the 2nd West League managed the Northern Essenes with goalkeeper Kubsch immediate return. The preliminary 1952/53 brought to Heinz Kubsch with the appointment of the DFB in the B international match on 9 November 1952 in Basel against Switzerland, a personal award. In 1953 now 23-year-old goalkeeper Heinz Kubsch moved to Pirmasens. With his speed and "cat-facing" movement he pushed through on to the national team for World Cup 1954 in Switzerland. In the last match before the World Cup tournament, the DFB-Elf won in Basel with 5-3 goals against Switzerland. In the years 1958, 1959 and 1960, the FK Pirmasens won the championship in a row in a league of south-west. Heinz Kubsch had completed 29 games in this round and said goodbye to the game on 16 April 1961 in Neunkirchen as an active player and ended after 222 league games with his career in Pirmasens. He played for West Germany on 18 November 1959 and 19 March 1960, two representative matches against southern and northern Germany. Heinz Kubsch died in October 1993 after a long illness.
