Paul Mebus was great wing half with good dribbling and technique but could play only 65-70 minutes and had big problems with alcohol which reduced his fame and chances in NT. Mebus was fast player, technically on very high level, had solid strength despite the small size. 1947 began training as a football coach at the Sports University Cologne, where Herberger was in charge. Mebus was best of the first year and as a reward for a year Herberger's assistant, until his ambitious Hennes Weisweiler the dispute took place. Mebus was the son of a spin - and would himself like to become a shoemaker. In 1952, he could not accept a lucrative offer overseas, since he had been inspired by his elders, scarlet fever and was sick for weeks. He would also not be accepted, because money was not important to him and he wanted to build something at home. 1951, with the change to 1.FC Cologne, he opened a fashion store in a street in Cologne several players had any business.
