INFO

Rolf Geiger was inside right forward with the genial technique and powerful shooting. He was more scoring minded player and never liked too much playmaking duties although he could be useful there dut to his technical capacities. Anyway he played deeper in midfield after he returned to Stuttgart from Mantova. Despite the small stature, he had good strength and body balance. He was very agile, determinative, had good feeling for entering in the open space and to score a goal. The striker began his football career at FC Marbach, then tied for the FV Salamander Kornwestheim the boots, then played (1955-1957) in the Oberliga Süd in the Stuttgarter Kickers (35 games 6 goals) and then moved to VfB Stuttgart. With the exception of the 1962/63 season at AC Mantova in Italy held Geiger this club until the end of his career (1967), the loyalty, both in the league (116 games, 59 goals) and in the league (70 games and 19 goals between 1963 and 1967). In 1958 he won the German Cup winner. Between 1956 and 1964 was Rolf Geiger also eight times the national jersey (2 goals), including one for the Kickers, and seven for VfB. After his successful debut in the national team on 23 December 1956 in Cologne's 4-1 win against Belgium seemed to be way into the DFB squad for the World Cup in Sweden in 1958 mapped out. It was not so: on 13 July 1957 he was imprisoned in Stuttgart by the sports tribunal of the Württemberg Football Association for seven months because it was detected at that time prohibited the payment of bounties before his move from local rivals VfB Stuttgart Kickers for. It was not until after the World Cup - in October 1958 to attend the courses in Frankfurt - violinist resurfaced in an array Sepp Herberger. Because he reckons no chance of getting at the World Cup in Chile in 1962 a regular place at the World Cup tournament, he sent four years later to coach a rejection to the invitation to complete the course in school sports Schoeneck. With the start of the Bundesliga in 1963 he returned to VfB Stuttgart back then and took it in 1964 to three other appearances in the national team. With the 4-1 win on 7 June 1964 in Helsinki against Finland (also at the same time last Herberger's game), with the violinist scored a goal, ended his international career. Among these include two amateur and a junior national team and participating in the 1956 Olympic Games in Melbourne.
